THE GET RICH QUICK SCHEMES ... TRUE BARRIER TO CRITICAL SUCCESS

PYRAMID SCHEMES HIGHLIGHTED IN FORBES MAGAZINE!!!

The article was dated August 11th, 2008, and it was like a breath of fresh, reasonable, rational, air blowing across the synapses of my brain.  Yes, it was just wonderful.  I'd love to take a moment to tell you about it.

I'm taking a break from critical success political commentary and Remus is pretty darn mad!  We'll get back on it in the next entry.  I PROMISE!

THE 4TH BARRIER

In my book Critical Success: The 2 Rules of 3, I talk about the barriers to critical success.  The 4th barrier is Falling Prey to the Get Rich Quick Schemes.

The is what far too many of us want, expect, sometimes even have the audacity to demand.  A turnkey solution to critical success.  We want the ready-made key that will point the way to financial independence, wealth, champagne wishes and caviar dreams.

Poor, poor, poor poetry.

My older brother is in the other room talking about spoonish porch-monkeys.  He wants to get back to the politics this morning, but he has a very strong opinion on this subject as well.  It happens to mirror my own.  Americans falling for Get Rich Quick Schemes is truly a mental and physical barrier to achieving Critical Success.  It holds us back, shackles us, weighs us down, leaving us mired in ignorance.  It prevents us from achieving all that we surely can because we don't think critically about this so-called quick path to wealth.  Before we know it, we've spent thousands of dollars, and achieved nothing.

Just this very morning I was talking personal finance with one of my best friends.  He told me he was dropping the travel club business he had belonged to.  Now, interestingly enough, he had a good rationale for investing in this Get Rich Quick Scheme.  He's in the tuxedo business, and he thought he could sell travel packages to newlyweds as part of his service.  Well, as with any new product line by General Mills or Johnson & Johnson, in business you have to market what you're selling.  They have to know its coming, what value it will provide, and why they just simply have to have it (within reason - we don't want to perpetuate MDC - www.2rulesof3.com).  He didn't have the time and money to effectively push making travel a strong addition to what he was offering. He told me he was dropping the travel club business.  He had invested over a $1000, and only made $80 in profit.  Those are horrible margins.  Now, with proper funding, knowledge of the facts, some focus, and a fundamental plan, he could have executed in a fashion that would have effectively leveraged selling honeymoon travel packages as part of his business.  He will return to this one day, but it will be on his own terms, not the terms of some other Multi-Level Marketing Master that made a sizable chunk of change off of people just like my friend.

However, I want to focus on the Forbes article.  The writers detailed what happened at a convention in Columbus Ohio in late June.  At the Nationwide Arena, a man named Orrin Woodward, cofounder of a company called Team, took the stage.  Seven thousand people were in attendance.  They had paid $90 each to attend.  That's $630,000 to hear this man talk about his Get Rich Quick Scheme.  And what was that scheme?  It was twofold.  This man has developed tools to help you sell the product he's pushing ... fruit juice in a wine bottle.  It's called MonaVie.  So, you can sell the tools, or you can sell the juice, or you can sell both.

Okay, listen people and hear me clearly.  The Multi-Level Marketing model is a fine model.  There are legal and illegal companies that leverage the MLM model in order to move product and generate revenue.  Both organizations make the people at the top quite wealthy.  In the illegal company, you, the person at the bottom can get left holding the bag (look up ponzi scheme).  In the legal company, you may get left holding the product, because you don't know how to sell.  This is where Woodward comes in.  He has a product, and purports to have the tools to help you sell.  You can push fruit juice, or motivational lectures to others, who then push it to others, who then push it to others.  Somewhere in the middle of both extremes, many MLM companies get too excited, and start making outlandish claims ... like their fruit juice rejuvenates and cures cancer.

SPOON!

Are you going to be a SPOON and listen to this claptrap?  How many seminars have you been invited to?  How many television commercials have you seen?  How many radio ads have you heard?  How many of you have seen a crazy ass Red Fox tell you you're going to make money, and hear the truth of his words from hired actors (check the fine print on the commercial).  How many times have you heard some clown tell you you're going to be rich?  Well, hopefully, I can be the last clown you listen to along these lines.  In my book, which I fully intend to sell through MLM networking, I break down this barrier.  I want each and every one of you to think clearly and concisely when considering MLM opportunities.  Can you sell vacuum cleaners or insurance door-to-door?  If you can't, then the MLM opportunity is not for you.  CAN YOU SELL, SELL, SELL?!?!?  Before you even think about trying to move boxes of Noni, ask yourself if you think you have the knack for selling.  Some people have a strong talent, they can sell poop to a wall.  Are you this kind of person?  Can you sell?

According to the Forbes article, Orrin Woodward's company made $42 million last year.  It has a MLM sales-force of 60,000 mostly middle-class members.  Orrin has a mansion.  Orrin has a yacht.  Orrin as at the top of the pyramid.  These 60,000 people see Orrin, take a deep breath, and with the enthusiasm of a kid running into the kitchen after a heated game of kickball swallow the kool-aid.  They are hooked, and cannot be dissuaded.  They believe in the caviar dream that Orrin represents.  The majority of these people aren't thinking.  They don't question.  They're not critical thinkers.  Don't be a porch-monkey.  Don't be a spoon.  Don't be limited by the 4th Barrier.  Don't fall prey to the Get Rich Quick Schemes.

BE CRITICAL THINKING!!!
